Fernando Botero Angulo is a Colombian figurative artist and sculptor. He was born in 1932 in Medellin, a small town in Colombia. Botero is well known for his sculptures as well. Between 1963 and 1964, he became interested in creating sculptures. Due to financial constraints he could not use bronze, instead,he made his sculptures with acrylic resin and sawdust. A famous example of this was "Small Head (Bishop)" created in 1964, a sculpture painted with great realism. However, the material was too porous and Botero decided to abandon this method. Botro achieved huge recognition for his works, which have been collected millions by sell. However, he has made quite a number of donations of his own creations as well as his personal collections. Botero has donated several artworks to museums in Bogotá and his hometown, Medellín. In 2000, Botero donated to the Museo Botero in Bogotá 123 pieces of his work and 85 pieces from his personal collection, including works by Chagall, Picasso, Robert Rauschenberg and the French impressionists. He donated 119 pieces to the Museum of Antioquia. His donation of 23 bronze sculptures for the front of the museum became known as the Botero Plaza, which became a great tourist attraction.
