Dessert and Discourse of Nanda Palmieri

American visual artist Nanda Palmieri was born in New York City in 1964. She is famous for her oil paintings of Italian Dessert: pastries, powdered donuts, which seem so realistic that people have an urge to gobble them. Though painted in large scale, the rendering of each item and the choice of colours reminds us of Renaissance Era paintings. Created with almost a religious fervour and simultaneously arising erotic lust, these works are made out of fun.

The deep red cherries set atom a chunk of creamy ice cream and flaky pastry creates a contrast of colour with a natural background increases the intensity of colour. All together this affects us physically, generating a hunger and simultaneously embarrassment, which is very comical.  Thus the artist shows us , how powerless we are before the demands of our body, however much we try to control our urges. The artist takes us to our childhood, when a frosted creamy cake was waiting for us to invariably dip our fingers in it.
