Qi Baishi’s journey was a very unique one. He became one of the most revered artists of Chine from a very humble beginning. He was just a peasant’s son and he wasn’t supposed to endure the life of an artist, but he did. He was born to a peasant’s family in Xiangtan village of Hunan. He started working as a carpenter and a seal crafter. He always had his knack towards art and artistry, towards the finest forms of work. He was a self taught artist. He was commissioned with the first paid work as a family portraitist and he then went on to popularize the 20th century Chinese painting to the rest of the world.
